NSCA CSCS, NASM PES
My passion for sport and exercise was cultivated at a young age and has developed throughout my life. As a young adult, I participated in soccer, basketball, cross country, track and field, along with countless hours of shooting hoops in my back yard aspiring to be the next Gary Payton. I lacked the skill and height to be a great basketball player but my attitude and work ethic lead me down an unforeseen path. Following my high school running career, I was invited to continue with the schools cross country team as the assistant coach and later I worked as the head coach. It was during my coaching experience that I realized my passion to help others, and this drove me to become a certified personal trainer.
My fitness training philosophy is Train Smart, Not Hard. While working together we will use this approach in your fitness program to maximize your results.
In pursuit of becoming a certified personal trainer, I attended the National Personal Trainer Institute (NPTI) where I learned to write customized 1 on 1 fitness programs specific to a wide range of fitness goals. A few key programs that I continue to implement today are healthy weight loss, toning, and functional fitness. I find that a critical component to your success is being able to adapt these training programs to everyday life along with working around any physical limitation from injuries that you may have. From my interest in athletics, I was naturally drawn to human performance and have earned recognition as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and more recently I completed training to become a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Currently I am in my final year of a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science from the University of Northern Colorado. While working together, I pull from my education and real world experience (4 years in the industry, 5 years coaching high school athletes, and 1 year working with college athletes) to help you to reach your fitness goals!
During my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities and find myself exploring the Rockies either hiking or backpacking. Sports competition remains important in my life; however, my interests have changed to golf and racquetball. While this makes me sound constantly on the move, I thoroughly enjoy lazy Sunday’s watching Bronco football during the fall and winter months!
