If you are trying to live a healthy lifestyle, you know that sometimes it can be challenging to stick to your good eating habits. There are so many temptations out there in the world. There is always an ad out for the newest candy bar, snack, ice cream, chips, meal at a restaurant, etc. The fact that many of these ads play at night on the TV creates an additional challenge. You are sitting on the couch and don’t have anything else to think about other than that food you just saw on TV. So, how do we learn to curb our cravings? What are some tricks to convince your body that you don’t really need that sweet treat?
Eat a high fiber diet.
Taking in a good amount of fiber throughout the day will increase the amount of satiety (satisfaction) you get from food and will keep you feeling more full throughout the day and later in the evening.
Find a good tasting protein snack.
Whether it is a protein bar or shake, or you figure out how to make protein ice cream (highly recommended!!!), finding a great tasting snack that has protein won’t only curb your cravings, but will give you some nutrients that your body needs in your training regimen anyways. Kill two birds with one stone!
Allow yourself to have a cheat.
Every now and then, it is okay to splurge a little bit and allow yourself to have that snack that you just can’t stop thinking about. Maybe use it as a reward for something good you did in the gym that day. Or maybe set up once a week where you allow yourself to have that cheat meal your body wants. Not always, but sometimes your body has these cravings to tell you that it needs some nutrient. Don’t go too crazy, but it won’t ruin all of your progress to have a little snack that you’ve been craving.
Moderation is key.
As with anything, having something in moderation is the key to staying successful. Sometimes, it is okay to let loose and not stress about what you are eating. Allowing yourself to have these moments will help you stay on track and motivated.
